Main objective

Addressing economic, educational and nutrition vulnerability in the district as a whole through focused investment in socio-economic development, food security and direct feeding, and educational upgrades.

Project brief

Q perspective is working with the Nuqul Group to directly implement all aspects of the program in Koura district. Pilot activities in 2012 include:

Community-operated packaging, labeling and filling centre

Overview

  • Provides direct revenue opportunities to 8 – 12 underprivileged women from the district.
  • Is equipped with labour – intensive as well as production intensive equipment, machinery, and raw material.
  •  Senior trainers from development and industrial background (Nuqul Group) involved in a full knowledge transfer process to local community.
  • Commitment by Nuqul Group to purchase products of high quality at fair – trade prices.


Chemical-free farming project

Overview

  • Provides direct and sustainable  revenue opportunities to around 5 individuals responsible for large families who were previously seasonal workers.
  • Is equipped with labour – intensive as well as production intensive equipment, machinery, and raw material.
  •  Project supervised by senior agricultural engineer from Q perspective with proven track record in chemical -free and organic farming.
  • Commitment by Nuqul Group to purchase products of high quality at fair – trade prices.


Technical training and relevant capacity building

Overview

  • Q perspective specialists and affiliates are providing on the job training to all beneficiaries of the program.
  • Managerial, marketing, financial management, inventory management, and employability skills are also being provided.
  •  Training modules utilized are segmented according to the educational level of beneficiaries (with huge emphasis on illiterate beneficiaries).


Strategic planning and partnership development

Overview

  • In parallel with above efforts, Q perspective is working with a vast scope of stakeholders, including community leaders and community members, to develop a long term strategy that encompasses the three major areas of intervention: Socio-economic development, healthy nutrition, and education.
  • The bases of the planning process is the participatory approach and the methodology is problem tree analysis.
  •  A comprehensive social, economic, educational, and health survey covering 20% of all underprivileged families in the district is currently underway by the Q perspective social research team. Results will be used as the main supporting document for the problem – tree analysis.
  • Partnerships with private, public, civil society, and international organizations is being sought to produce a wide PPP model where all partners co -fund and co- implement the strategic projects and activities.
